This Chinese Elm is a no-nonsense, serious bonsai planted in a traditional Yixing bonsai pot with a patent-pending feature to retain water for easy maintenance. The Chinese Lacebark Elm is a desirable choice for bonsai because of its graceful branches, small serrated leaves, and distinctive mottled bark.

This hardy deciduous species is adaptable, a vigorous grower resilient to pruning, and thrives in a variety of climates, making it an excellent choice for beginners and experienced bonsai enthusiasts alike. What we provide is a living canvas for you to create nature as you envision it. Simply clip away any branch growth outside of your design parameters.

The “handy-dandy” clipper we use is included as a FREE gift with each bonsai we ship (while supplies last).

Please note: Due to their nature, trees grow and may need pruning, so the tree that you receive may differ slightly in appearance and/or size to the images in this listing.

  • Hardy and vigorous, easy to grow into a magnificent specimen bonsai.
  • Prefers rich, moist loam, well-drained soils.
  • A popular bonsai tree because its bark develops an aged look, leaves become tiny with clipping, and the tree is easy to maintain.
  • A standout feature of the Bonsai Heirloom cultivar is that most will have red foliage in the fall.
  •  Implemented for easy maintenance and longevity, using a proprietary soil composition in our patent pending YiXing bonsai pot that retains moisture.
  • Includes a unique built-in root pruning system for work-free maintenance.
  • Formal upright, each tree is distinctively natural.
  • Overall height of the bonsai from the base to the top of the tree is around 12”, and the width of the pot is 10".

We offer free shipping on all orders! Please note that we currently ship exclusively within the 48 contiguous United States. Stay tuned as we work toward expanding our reach to serve bonsai enthusiasts internationally in the future!

Easy maintenance is built in with its proprietary soil composition and patent pending bonsai pot.

Watering
Watering is relaxing, because it is an act of nurturing.

Water your bonsai daily and even more on hot days. Never let the root ball dry out and there is no need to worry about “drowning" your bonsai, because air would fill the voids as water evaporates.

Exposure
Place your bonsai in full sun or partial shade. Photolysis keeps bonsai healthy, strong, and growing.

Ideally your bonsai should be kept outdoor and kept indoor a week or two at a time. They can be kept next to an open window or under a bright grow light out of necessity.

Fertilizer
We recommend fish emulsion with kelp every week or two during the summer months. Houseplant fertilizers, slow release lawn food, and chicken manure pellets are all fine; use less than full strength to avoid over fertilizing.

Pruning
Pruning your bonsai is like meditation, providing a moment of focus and concentration

You can never make a mistake pruning. New growth will provide opportunities to improve the design.

Repotting
Our bonsai has a root pruning mesh to reduce the need for frequent repotting. When you want to optimize the presenting by orientation or change a pot, simply lift the tree.
