Prostrata Juniper 2
Scientific name: Juniperus Chinensis Var. Sargentii
Origin: China
Distinguishing feature: Prostrate in growing habits; trunk turns and twists naturally to prove design opportunities. Perfect bonsai material without the need for extensive wiring.
Style: Informal upright
History: It is a groundcover shrub in a relative’s home in Irvine, California for 25 years. It was started as a 5 gallon plant. Dug it in 2009 and grew in a 20 gallon nursery pot. All main branches were cut back to make into jin because they were too long and have growth only at the tips; small shoots are used to start over to style the tree. Put into this bonsai pot 2015 using my standard soil mix. Expect rapid growth to increase ramification.
